A Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, and mission analyses for customer systems. This individual performs analyses at all levels of system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. He or she will ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. This person will perform functional analyses, timeline analyses, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

The Senior Systems Engineer provides highly innovative solutions to unusually complex technical problems. He or she will apply advanced technical principles and theories, contributing to the development of new principles and concepts. The engineer develops advanced technological ideas and guides their development into a final product. The individual serves as an organization spokesperson on advanced projects and/or programs and advises management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications.

Formal education and certification requirements for the Senior Systems Engineer include having a degree in the field of engineering, physics, or computer science. A master’s degree is preferred. The individual should have ten years of technical leadership experience in scientific research and development. He or she should also have extensive Systems Engineering experience and a thorough understanding of RF theory and signal processing. Because of the sensitive nature of some technical applications, the individual should either have, or can obtain, a DOD Top Secret clearance. Other clearance requirements include a Single-Scope Background Investigation (SSBI), Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access, and a Counter-Terrorism (CI) polygraph.

A successful Senior Systems Engineer will not only have superior analytical, evaluative, and problem‐solving abilities, but also possess the interpersonal skills to work well with others. Personal attributes include the ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non‐technical audiences, and the ability to motivate in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. This person should be exceptionally self-motivated and directed, have excellent written and oral communication skills, and have a keen attention to detail. The Senior Systems Engineer is a critical asset to the technical team.
